Community Connections Scholarship
Empowering Foster Youth Through Extracurriculars
Extracurricular activities—like sports, arts, leadership programs, and travel—help foster youth build confidence, strengthen community ties, and grow into capable leaders. Students who participate in these activities are 22% more likely to feel connected to their community and 25% more likely to demonstrate leadership skills (NCES). For foster youth, these experiences create critical pathways to belonging, purpose, and future success. Enrichment activites typically require additional time, commitment, and community invlovement which have a significant positive impact on youth—especially in building confidence, community exposure, and leadership.

Research shows that foster parents who regularly connect with peer support networks are 62% more likely to continue fostering and report higher levels of confidence, reduced burnout, and improved outcomes for the children in their care (National Foster Parent Association, 2022).
Together, we strengthen one another—and the families we serve.
